Steven W. Burrows, Partner, Chicago Illinois

Steve is a native of Chicago’s Bridgeport community, and his dedication to his clients is matched only by his dedication to the community. He has spent his entire legal career representing injured individuals and their families. Steve started his career as a workers’ compensation attorney, ensuring that his client’s rights were protected before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. He then focused his practice on personal injury cases, and his ability in the courtroom was evident from his first jury trial, when he successfully secured a muliti-million dollar verdict on behalf of a painter injured after falling from a scaffold on the CTA Green Line project. Since that first trial, his results have included the following verdicts and settlements:

• $3,000,000 to an injured ironworker who sustained a career ending injury after falling from an unsecured roof

• $1,750,000 to an ironworker that slipped and fell on an unsafe deck, causing severe injuries to his leg

• $1,250,000 to a driver injured after being struck by a semi-tractor trailer on Interstate 94 in Chicago

• $1,100,000 to the family of a motorcycle driver who was killed by a turning vehicle

• $660,000 to an ironworker who sustained a serious back injury after slipping and falling on snow and ice

• $550,000 to the family of a girl who died after a suburban fire department failed to treat her allergic reaction

Steve has handled a wide array of cases, from motor vehicle negligence to complex construction negligence cases. Steve is responsible for the preliminary investigation, analysis and determination of the proper legal theory to support a cause of action. At O’Connor & Nakos, Steve handles all aspects of personal injury claims ensuring that every client and their families are represented with the dedication and compassion that has made the attorneys of O’Connor & Nakos some of the leading lawyers in the State of Illinois.

Steve’s desire to assist others goes beyond our doors and into his south-side community. He currently serves as the First Vice President of the De La Salle Alumni Association, assisting his alma mater in fundraising and alumni relations. Steve is a founding board member of the F.O.R.C.E. Foundation, which has successfully raised and donated over $100,000.00 to schools and organizations in the Bridgeport community since its start in 1999.
